Auren is an alarm app. It is built so that almost nothing about you needs to leave your phone — and the parts that do are listed here in full. This policy covers the Auren Alarm app for iPhone and this website.
The short version
- Your camera, microphone and motion sensors are processed entirely on your device. No photo, video, audio or sensor reading is ever uploaded, stored, or seen by us. Speech for the Affirmation mission is recognised on your iPhone only.
- You can use Auren without an account. Alarms, missions and streaks all work with no sign-in — and fully offline.
- If you sign in, we store your alarms and wake history so you can restore them on a new phone, plus what the friend features need — listed below in full.
- Friends only ever see what you choose to share: your name, avatar, the messages you write and — if you pick a Wake Witness — whether you are up after your alarm.
- We do not sell your data. We do not build advertising profiles about you.
- You can delete your account and all its data from inside the app, in two taps.
What we collect, and why
If you use Auren without an account
Your alarms, missions, streak and history are stored only on your device. We receive none of it. The app still sends usage statistics and crash reports (see below), linked to a random app identifier.
If you sign in with Apple or Google

Usage statistics and crash reports
To fix problems and improve Auren, the app sends which screens and features are used, the answers you give during setup (for example how often you oversleep and what you wake up for), and crash reports with your device model and iOS version. This uses Google Firebase (Analytics and Crashlytics). If you are signed in, these are linked to your account identifier; otherwise to a random app identifier. They never include photos, recordings or the content of your messages.

If you subscribe to Auren Pro
Purchases are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details. RevenueCat manages your subscription status with a purchase identifier: random, or your account identifier if you sign in. If you are signed in, your subscription status is also saved with your account, so Pro follows you to a new device.
Ads (free plan only)
Ads appear only on the free plan, and never around an alarm: optional short videos you choose to watch, and at most one full-screen ad in the evening. They are provided by Google AdMob. In the EU, EEA, UK and Switzerland you are asked for consent first. If you allow tracking, AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier to show more relevant ads; if you decline, ads still work and are simply less personalised. You can change this at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Auren Pro removes all ads.
Measuring our own advertising
We use the TikTok Business SDK to measure whether our TikTok ads led to an install or a purchase. It receives app events such as installs, opens and purchases, with basic device information. If you allow tracking, it may also use your device's advertising identifier; if you decline, it does not.
Permissions, and what each one does

Every permission is optional. If one is missing, Auren substitutes a mission that needs nothing. Auren never asks for a permission while an alarm is sounding.

Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy and only to provide its service to us.
Why we are allowed to use your data
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performing our agreement with you (your account, sync, friend features, subscriptions); legitimate interests (keeping the app working, fixing crashes, understanding which features help people wake up, preventing abuse of invite codes); and your consent (personalised ads and advertising tracking, which you can withdraw at any time).
How long we keep things
Account data is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account, it is removed immediately and permanently, and backups are overwritten within 30 days. Wake messages are deleted 6 hours after being read. Data stored only on your device is removed when you delete the app.
Your rights
- Delete everything — in the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. Immediate and cannot be undone.
- Get a copy of your data — email us and we will send it within 30 days.
- Correct something — change your name in Profile, or email us.
- Withdraw a permission — iOS Settings → Auren.
- Stop ad tracking — iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Object or complain — you can object to processing based on legitimate interests by emailing us, and you have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
- US state privacy rights (for example California) — you may request access to or deletion of your data. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising except the optional, consent-based ad tracking described above, which you can switch off at any time.
Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. Subscriptions are billed by Apple and cancelled in iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
Where your data is held
Account data is stored on Google Cloud (Firebase) in the United States. If you are outside that region, your data is transferred there under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Access to account data is restricted by server-side rules, so a user can read only their own data and what friends chose to share. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we hold to the minimum the app needs.
Children
Auren is rated 4+ but is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that affects you, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
